Hod Ha’emek [the Glory of the Valley] is two luxuriously appointed vacation chalets built of wood that face the Golan Heights, Mount Hermon, and the Huleh Valley. A breathtaking view of a constantly-changing patchwork of colours as the sun moves during the day, is replaced by an enchanting view of clusters of lights of all the settlements in the area, up to Tiberias in the south, that complement the moonlight and star-filled sky at night.

Hod HaEmek

The chalets are situated in the heart of one of the largest pine, cypress and cedar forests in Israel, at an altitude of 850 metres above sea-level, so at all times of the year the air is clean, subtly-scented, and refreshing. The chalets’ appointments include a LCD TV that rotates through 360 degrees.There is satellite TV with stations in several languages.

A small kitchenette is provided, with a microwave and fridge, which contains milk, yoghurt, fresh fruit juice and our crystal-clear Amoka water, while fresh fruit of the season awaits you on a platter. Adjacent to the verandah there are several varieties of organically-grown herbs and shrubs, and if you do not fancy one of the several types of tea and coffee provided, you may pick herbs freely to make the refreshing natural infusion of your choice.

The main sounds you will hear at Hod Ha’emek are those of the forest-dwellers: several species of birds including the rare black eagle, owls and woodpeckers, or the foxes, hedgehogs, hyenas, jackals, porcupines and wild pigs, and sometimes the beef-cattle that graze in the vicinity. During the migratory seasons, hundreds of thousands of grey cranes and storks pass overhead, migrating either from Europe to Africa or vice-versa. In August you will be astounded by the meteor showers at night.

This total immersion in tranquility and nature is a unique way of recharging your mental and physical batteries, even after a relatively brief stay. If you are more energetic, there are several official and unofficial hiking and biking trails in the forest itself, or within a few minutes’ drive, as well as a large number of nature reserves and archaeological sites in the Huleh Valley and on the Golan Heights. The area also boasts a number of good restaurants offering nouvelle cuisine to traditional Bedouin or Circassian cooking, all within about 20 minutes drive from the mitzpe. For those who wish to “do their own thing” we are always glad to offer advice about the area and its inhabitants based on our 40 years’ residence in the area.
